Thank you Prof Brownstein. The reduction in poverty in China and India over the last 30 years is truly incredible. Your article brought to mind the following comment by former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating (from 2017):
"Fullilove: You’re a little different from some Labor foreign policymakers who are more focused, perhaps, on institutions and questions of human rights. So what was the big picture for you on foreign policy when you served as prime minister?
"Keating: Well, I had a great advantage, of course: I wasn’t a lawyer. That meant I began with a wider field of view. And legalism has informed these institutional issues far too much and for far too long in Australia"
China is an enemy as declared by its numerous leaders including Zhu at the time when Clinton bailed it out by allowing into WTO. The only reason it is not a ruined empire is access to western technology and markets. Yet it still considers us its enemy. At some point, u have to start to listen to your enemy and destroy t.
On a point of regular people, similar arguments could be made of Russians. They were trying to get ahead economically yet ended up killing Ukrainians. Chinese would do likewise as long as they are ruled by communist dictators

Trade makes enemies into friends. The goal should be to create economic ties so thick that war is unimaginable. I will explain that point more in coming weeks.
