The term “perfect” is a contextual term meaning fulfilling all the requirements of some rational standard. Heaven and god are not rational standards, the are mystical standards. Writers should be wary of confusing the two. For man, perfection is possible if the moral standard is objective. (Morality is the province of reason not priests or emotions). Rousseau new exactly that the enemy upon whom he unleashed his thug Robespierre was the individual, sovereign man, against man the achiever who was the object of Rousseau’s self-loathing envy.
