It's a good article, and people in general should be more kind. However, not all of us have the personality for it. Me, for example. I've always been an asocial loner. I truly am one of those who are disconnected. I live with it, and quite frankly I like my solitary lifestyle. I've never seen any lack of socialization in our culture. It seems the norm. Any psychologist will tell you that "humans need social connection". Even the Epoch Times harps on this constantly. Not me! I can reach out in my own (nonsocial) ways, such as on Facebook, if I have something to share. I do not want attention, I do not want to be important, I do not want success, I do not want anything from society (except to be left alone). Different strokes for different folks.
I wish you the best, Barbara. I'm glad you have found what works for you. One thought though. You can try out different ways of being and perhaps see that your personality is not as fixed as you think.
I find that giving instead of receiving enriches my soul. No matter my financial situation I always give to the sick and homeless charities. My best friend in college was Jewish and very wealthy but would ‘give the shirt off his back’ whenever someone is in need. He was astute and humble and made a profound affect on my life going forward.
