Very true. There are many examples of extreme hubris on this subject among supposedly intelligent people. My favorite is the glassy-eyed certainty that more carbon dioxide in the air will have catastrophic consequences. Yet ice core samples reveal that it was many times higher than now throughout most of the earth's (recorded) history, about three times as high when dinosaurs roamed the earth and life was thriving, as long as one of the big guys didn't eat you. Funny how seldom that's mentioned today.

But wait! There's more! You've probably heard of the latest great idea: put a giant umbrella in space to partially shade earth. Don't like that one? Not to worry, they have an inexhaustible supply of new plans, each more sweeping than the one before.
