Nice work, Barry. Complaint serves as a filter over our perception of our life circumstances which tints and shades everything in a way that makes gratitude impossible. In fact, we could think of giving thanks as anti-complaint, just as matter and anti-matter cancel out.
Excellent Barry…Oftentimes, I have complaints or negative thoughts in my mind. I immediately replace those with positive and make sure my negative thoughts do not become deeds.
You have found what works, but consider this small tweak. It's your awareness that is doing the heavy lifting. If you look at yourself without judgment, then you don't have to substitute in the positive thought, the negative quickly fades by shining the light on it.

Reminded me of a thought from Wayne Dyer who said when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
And the thought extends to being difficult to feel down and complain while thinking through all that is good for which to be grateful.
