imho some were truly evil... Mengele: an evil sadist, the good "Chermans" nix/not evil. Howevah, that shouldn't let 'em off the hook morally. Zey were able ta both rationalize whut they did, justify it usin' the logic they were "dosed," & act "as if" evil by clothin' heinous behavior under the umbrella of "followin' the gut leader" an' sincerely believin' that their efforts were fer--I hate this term--"The Greater Good." Let's say they behaved in an way that wuz evil / morally obscene but inside they thought themselfs ethical upright citizens. I think the deeply psychotic ones were cut from a different cloth tho'...(Hitler, Himmler, Mengele, etc)

It is possible ta grasp this even if ye don't believe in the supernatural / The Devil / Satan, etc. That said, I'm agreein' that ye gotta see the humanity even in deluded youth in brownshirts... an' hope ta sway them persuasively, with kindness, with empathy... that I DO git.

We miss what Eger DID DO. Yes, she resisted an urge ta throttle that fool kid but WHAT did she SAY or DO to change his views (if indeed she did)?

I recall a story 'bout an upstate NY doctor, a survivor no less, a religious man, who had ta treat an injured, bleedin' "Nazi Skinhead" young fella with swastika tats, shaved head, the whole thing brought inta the emergency room an' the other staff members were ready to give him to an'nuther MD outta respect fer the jooish doctor but he said NO, let me treat him an' I will tell him I'm savin' his life because I'm not only a doctor but a jewish doctor an' I took an oath to see the humanity in all people an' help them regardless of their beliefs because my faith sez I need ta help, it's the right/righteous thing ta do.

Apparently the Nazi Skin cursed this man out an' called him all manner of names an' wuz not "grateful" fer the treatment, 'specially from the "race" he hated." The fella's life wuz saved. We'd like a happy endin' here but Hollywood wazn't present. The doctor went home feelin' he did the right thing. The young man? Doubtful any lesson larned. In this case the decision was the right one as the "potential" damage this fellow might've done would'a been minimal (one would hope). However, with Sinwar it cost many lives... Sinwar wuz (imho) evil--a man that strangled others with his bare hands-- an' bein' up on the totem pole, he could ACT on his beliefs... an' did. Sometimes a little sechel trumps (haha) purity of heart (I wonder if the Israeli physicians regret savin' his life...)😉
